ECO PACKAGING
Palette — Sustainable Tea Box System

Project Overview

PALETTE is a conceptual premium tea brand originating from Bangladesh, positioned for a global creative audience — artists, musicians, designers and collectors. While Bangladesh is a major tea producer, its packaging representation in the global premium segment remains visually conventional and plastic-dependent.

The brief was to introduce a refined, minimalist and sustainable packaging system that aligns with contemporary creative lifestyles and positions tea as a creative ritual rather than a commodity — without sacrificing the shelf presence a premium brand needs.

Design Rationale

Why an Eco Redesign

Problem

Most tea packaging uses multi-layer foil laminates or plastic-coated cardboard, most of which cannot be recycled and ends up as long-lived landfill waste.

A landfill piled with plastic and mixed-material waste
Solution

A 100% biodegradable and upcycle-able tea box — designed to reduce, reuse and recycle at every stage of its life.

Material

Eco-friendly recycled paper — visibly fibrous and hand-made in character, rather than a bright coated stock.

Swatches of naturally-dyed recycled handmade paper
Color & Print

Natural tea-extract ink, screen-printed onto the box — the packaging is, quite literally, printed in its own tea. No conventional ink.

Dieline & Engineering

Reinforcing Cap — 80 × 80 × 25 mm
Flat dieline of the Palette box's reinforcing cap, 80mm x 80mm x 25mm
The box geometry is derived from a measured flat dieline optimized for efficient material usage and clean folding transitions. The cap component reinforces vertical compression strength, allowing stable stacking in retail environments.

Adhesive application is limited to stress-bearing seams to reduce excess material use. An inner removable sleeve protects the tea leaves from moisture while remaining separable from the outer structure. The overall system emphasizes clarity and functionality without unnecessary formal complexity.
After Use

Built for a Second Life

The empty Palette box reused as a pen and brush holder on a creative's desk

The durability of the paperboard allows the box to transition into desk storage after primary use — here, holding brushes and pens on a creative’s work table.

The separable inner sleeve ensures that components can be sorted appropriately for recycling once the box has served both lives: as packaging, and as an everyday object.
